On the Tube – Week of December 31

Monday: Bring out the champagne or the sparkling cider as we celebrate the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013, and there are no shortage of programs to keep you company until the strike of midnight. The annual New Year’s Eve concert at the Lincoln Center pays tribute to Marvin Hamlish in, One Singular Sensation (OPB @ 8PM). We also pay tribute to the master of New Year’s Eve celebrations, the unforgettable, Dick Clark, in New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Celebrates Dick Clark with hosts Jenny McCartney and Fergie. (ABC @ 8PM). If you’re up for more music, tune in to iHeartRadio Music Festival for performances by Usher, Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift and Swedish House Mafia amongst others (The CW @ 8PM). Start up the DVR!

Tuesday: Wake up to the sights of animated floats covered with plant material and the sound of marching bands. It must be the 124th Tournament of Roses Parade (NBC @ 8PM). Stanford and Wisconsin duke it out at The Rose Bowl (ESPN @ 2PM). The pre-game show starts an hour earlier. Survival skills instructor Cody Lundin and special ops veteran Joe Teti returns for a new season, and more crazy survival situations, in Dual Survival (Discovery@ 8PM). There’s no shortage of dysfunctional helicopter parents in the season premiere of Dance Moms (Lifetime @ 9PM).

Wednesday: College basketball: Utah takes on Arizona State (PAC-12 @ 7PM). PBS airs a two-hour block about surviving volcanic eruptions on Iceland with Doomsday Volcanoes @ 9PM and Life on Fire @ 10PM. True Blood alum Denis O’Hare guest-stars as a priest who is assaulted on Law & Order: SVU (NBC @ 10PM). The Monsignor confronts the devil on American Horror Story (FX @ 10PM).

Thursday: Kansas State vs. Oregon on Tostitos Fiesta Bowl (ESPN @ 5:30PM). Finch goes undercover to protect a youth in Person of Interest, while Carter goes on a dangerous FBI mission (KBNZ @ 9:01PM). Katie Holmes is the guest-judge for tonight’s fashion challenge on Project Runway: All Stars (Lifetime @ 9PM). MTV debuts a new series about nine friends in West Virginia who do things like build a human slingshot. Tune in for more on Buckwild (MTV @ 10PM).

Friday: Two victims are linked to the same murder weapon on CSI: NY (KBNZ-CBS @ 9PM). It’s time to bring out the craft beer and cheese for the season premiere of Portlandia, starring Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein (IFC @ 10PM). If you got engaged on New Year’s Eve and want to catch up on the latest trends in wedding gear, why not tune into the season premiere of Say Yes To The Dress: Randy Knows Best (TLC @ 10PM).

Saturday: PAC-12 basketball: Stanford @ UCLA (Pac-12 @ 12PM); Utah @ Arizona (PAC-12 @ 2PM); Washington @ WSU (ESPNU @ 6:30PM); and California @ USC (FSN @ 8PM). Shorty and his slew of pitbulls are back for new adventures in the season premiere of Pit Boss (Animal Planet @ 9PM). British funny man Graham features Tom Cruise, Hugh Jackman, Pink, and Billy Crystal on the red couch on The Graham Norton Show (BBC America @ 10PM). Mother of the Bride is hired to perform at a divorce party on The Wedding Band. Except the band members try to get the unhappy couple back together (TBS @ 10PM).

Sunday: PAC-12 basketball: Oregon @ OSU (FSN @ 7PM). Did you make the obligatory New Year’s Eve promise to lose weight in the year to come? Tune in to the season premiere of The Biggest Loser and see people with much bigger challenges (NBC @ 8PM). Fans of Downton Abbey: Get ready for the premiere of the British “upstairs downstairs” drama, this season with American actress Shirley MacLaine as Martha Levinson (PBS @ 9PM). The contestants on Rachel vs. Guy Celebrity Cook-Off must put together a menu for a dinner theater and perform a skit (Cooking @ 9PM).
