BVC winner SnoPlanks offers locals’ discount

This is cool: SnoPlanks, the Bend-based company that won the $15,000 BendBroadband Early Stage Award at last month’s Bend Venture Conference, is offering a 25-percent discount on its handmade bamboo snowboards and skis to anyone with a Bend ZIP Code.

SnoPlanks was one of five local startups to compete for the award during the 12th annual BVC, held Oct. 15-16 at the Tower Theatre. BVC, hosted by EDCO, is the largest angel conference in the Pacific Northwest.

Kelly Kearsley of has the scoop from James Nicol and Ryan Holmes, the affable co-founders of SnoPlanks:

The Give-Back-to-Bend promo … runs through Thanksgiving. “The BVC really validated that we not only have a great product, but that the community believes that we could be successful in the long term,” Holmes says.

Nicol adds they wanted to find a way to express their gratitude, and that giving back to the community is a core company value. “This is what we can do right now,” he says.
