The 16th FINA Aquatics World Championships will be held July 25-Aug. 9 in Kazan, Russia, which sounds far away — and it is: about 5,500 miles from Central Oregon as the crow flies. But you’ll be able to watch the action thanks to a free preview of the Universal Sports Network scheduled for Aug. 1-10.
The FINA championships feature 2,500 of the world’s elite athletes from 186 countries competing in six disciplines: swimming, water polo, diving, high diving, open water swimming and synchronized swimming. Participants will include U.S. Olympic gold medalists Ryan Lochte, Nathan Adrian, Missy Franklin, Katie Ledecky and more.
BendBroadband customers can find Universal Sports — the only network that offers year-round coverage of Olympic, endurance and action sports — on channels 45 and 645 (HD). It’s regularly available as part of the Bronze Variety and Sports packages.
Programming highlights during the free preview include a daily live broadcast of the finals of the World Swimming Championships Aug. 3-5, as well as stage one of the Eneco Tour, a cycling event, on Aug. 10. Also planned to air: the World Grand Prix of indoor volleyball, the FINA world diving and water polo championships, and other cycling events. Here’s a handy chart of what’s showing when, but note that times are Eastern. Subtract three hours for the local air time.
