Universal Sports Network is going away Nov. 16

USN

Effective Nov. 16, Universal Sports Network will no longer be available to BendBroadband customers on channels 45 and 645 (HD).

Universal Sports was recently purchased by NBC Universal. Unfortunately, the channel will cease to exist as of Nov. 16 and will be removed from our lineup. This decision, made by NBC Universal, is completely out of our control, and it impacts any provider currently offering Universal Sports, not just BendBroadband.

NBC will inherit the network’s portfolio of sports-broadcasting rights, according to a report on the Sports Business Daily website. Universal Sports airs a mix of cycling, gymnastics, beach volleyball and skiing, among other sports. NBC issued a statement on the acquisition:

“We are thrilled to be finalizing an agreement with Universal Sports that will provide NBCUniversal and NBC Sports with an impressive collection of media rights to some of the world’s most prestigious sporting events. We will have more information regarding our plans when the transaction closes in November.”

Some of Universal Sports’ content is expected to air on other NBC Universal channels, including NBC Sports Network (27 / 627 HD) and Universal HD (channel 552 for HD+ customers). For more on our wide array of sports networks, please refer to our online channel lineup.
