A prequel of sorts to the Despicable Me movies, Minions follows a trio of funny little yellow creatures in the late 1960s who are desperate to serve a new, super-evil master. Their quest leads them to Villain-Con, a supervillain convention in Orlando, Florida, where they team up with Scarlet Overkill (voiced by Sandra Bullock). Hilarity ensues as the Minions embark on a mission to London which eventually sets up their future adventures in the Despicable Me films.

AMYSmall

Now showing. Rated R.

This documentary depicts the life and death of British singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, who died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27. A selection at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, Amy went on to become the highest-grossing British documentary of all time. The critically acclaimed film mixes home videos, rare live sessions and interviews with more than 100 of the star-crossed R&B artist’s friends and family.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION
Now showing. Rated PG-13.

Everyone’s favorite ageless wonder, Tom Cruise, is back for the fifth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. In Rogue Nation, Cruise’s Ethan Hunt is out to prove a global crime organization called the Syndicate does exist, contrary to the belief of the CIA. On the run from his own government after the CIA disbands the Mission: Impossible crew, Hunt and his old gang go rogue in their efforts to chase down the Syndicate.

MalalaSmall

HE NAMED ME MALALA
Now showing. Rated PG-13.
© 2015 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation
Directed by Academy Award-winning director Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth), He Named Me Malala is an intimate portrait of Malala Yousafzai, winner of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, who was targeted by the Taliban and severely wounded by a gunshot when returning home on her school bus in Pakistan. She miraculously survived and is now a leading campaigner for girls’ education around the world as co-founder of the Malala Fund.

AntManSmall

ANT-MAN
Now showing. PG-13.
© 2015 Marvel
Armed with a super-suit that enables its user to shrink in scale but increase in strength, reformed cat burglar Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner superhero to pull off a heist that will save the world. The 12th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ant-Man “succeeds well enough as a genial diversion and sometimes a delightful one, predicated on the rarely heeded Hollywood wisdom that less really can be more,” according to Variety magazine.

Keep an eye out for other films that premiered this month, including Fantastic Four, Ted 2, A Walk in the Woods and more.
