Last week, three Central Oregon nonprofits received quite a holiday surprise.
Each year, BendBroadband sets aside money in its field marketing budget to give back to the communities it serves.
That money – between $6,000 and $8,000 each year – is gifted to area nonprofits to help them further their missions.
Molly Hissong-Black, an associate manager of field marketing for the company, researched various nonprofits that BendBroadband had not partnered with in the past.
“This year we wanted to do something really special,” she said. “With so many nonprofits in the area, we’d love to support all of them, but sometimes we just cannot.”
Hissong-Black presented 10 nonprofits to BendBroadband employees and asked them to choose three organizations they thought were the most deserving of an unexpected holiday boost. The Pediatric Foundation, Saving Grace and BrightSide received the most votes, and thus received the gifts.
The joy spread throughout the day, as marketing team members surprised each of the nonprofits.
“The goal was to model it after a Publishers Clearing House-type of event,” Hissong-Black said. “So that’s what we did.”
Oversized check and all.
