And today, MTV’s parent company will celebrate the anniversary by replacing another one of its channels, VH1 Classic, with a new channel called MTV Classic.
BendBroadband customers with the Preferred package can find MTV Classic on channel 196.
According to a press release, MTV Classic “will feature an eclectic mix of fan-favorite MTV series and music programming drawn from across its rich history, with a special focus on the 1990s and early 2000s.” The channel will kick off with “MTV Hour One,” a re-airing of MTV’s first hour of programming back in 1981, followed by “The TRL Decade” and a marathon of memorable episodes of “MTV Unplugged,” including acoustic sets by Nirvana, Bob Dylan, Erykah Badu, Alice in Chains, Neil Young and more.
Next up will be a primetime block of animated shows: “Daria,” “Beavis & Butt-head” and “Aeon Flux.” To start, MTV Classic will feature primetime programming blocks Mondays through Thursdays from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. including those three series, as well as “Run’s House,” “Pimp My Ride,” “Cribs,” “Jackass,” “Punk’d,” “Wonder Showzen” and more. Every Friday, the channel will showcase classic music series in primetime including “MTV Unplugged,” “Storytellers,” live music performances and more. On the weekends, the network will serve up marathons of fan favorites including full seasons of “The Real World,” “Laguna Beach,” “Road Rules” and more.
Additionally, MTV Classic will continue to run movies, concerts and music videos from the past three decades of music, according to the release.
