Fourteen year-old Hannah Bishop was thrilled to travel cross country for her first-ever visit to Chicago in early August. Back in February she was named Oregon’s Miss Junior Teen Queen. Since then, she has enjoyed meeting new people at local events, and said “everyone was kind of surprised to see a queen.”
Hannah is the daughter of Chris Bishop, a BendBroadband network specialist in Bend. Her entire family traveled to Idaho to watch her compete in the state competition, where she was crowned Miss Junior Teen Queen. In August. Her mom took her to the national competition in Chicago.
The Miss Amazing organization aims to give girls and women with disabilities opportunities to build confidence and gain self-esteem. Through creating a sisterhood, building life skills and increasing visibility on a public platform, the Miss Amazing organization strives to reach that goal.
The organization gave Hannah the opportunity to fulfill a dream of hers, which was to participant in a beauty pageant. Grateful for this experience, Chris said, “My family and I are so happy for the organization and the opportunity that it gave Hannah to compete in Idaho and travel to Chicago for the national competition. In Chicago, Hannah did well on stage, had a great time and meet other Miss Amazing queens from around the country.”
In order to fund the trip to nationals, the Bishops asked for support and donations. The family was successful and raised just over $1,000 for Hannah and her mom to travel to the pageant.
The National Miss Amazing pageant was held in Chicago, Aug. 4-7. There were 36 states represented with up to six levels of representation per state, with more than 100 participants from around the country.
The four-day long event is packed with fun for all participants and for those supporting them. The competition included a talent show, where Hannah showed off her dance moves to “Party in the U.S.A.” There was an interview section as well, where participants were asked about themselves and their future goals. And last, but not least, an evening gown segment, where participants were display their style.
However, the competition was not the only thing happening at nationals. There was a Gala and a Pajama Party. Hannah was very excited for both of these and early on she had both her dress and pajamas picked out and ready for the events.
BendBroadband is a proud sponsor of the Miss Amazing pageant, which has helped many girls and women with disabilities. To learn more about the organization and their events visit the Miss Amazing site. Check out the interview on KOHD on the Central Oregon Daily show with Zolo Media.
