Playing it forward at BendBroadband’s Jazz at the Oxford

Playing it forward at BendBroadband’s Jazz at the Oxford

Looking to experience a hands-on workshop with world-class Jazz performers for Free? Go no further than right here in Bend.

Musicians and singers, young and old are invited to attend one or all four of the workshops where the Jazz performers from the series teach the next generation this extraordinary art form. These free music-education workshops are an important part of BendBroadband’s Jazz at the Oxford. No matter what style or how long you’ve played, you are welcome to attend.

Local Jazz musician Georges Bouhey hosts these workshops and this will be his sixth season doing so. The first workshop kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 21, 11;15 a.m. at the Minnesota Ballroom at the OXFORD hotel.

“I’m so pleased that these workshops have grown in size year after year,” said Georges. “These workshops keep me in touch with young people and more importantly it helps keep Jazz alive. It’s so important for young Jazz players to be exposed to live Jazz music. Many thanks to BendBroadband for sponsoring Jazz at the Oxford. To my knowledge this is the only opportunity for young people and Central Oregonians to see, hear and interact with world-class touring professional Jazz musicians.”

Georges was the original drummer for Mason Williams and The Santa Fe Recital. He toured extensively at top venues like Red Rocks Amphitheater & Wolf Trap Farm Park with artists including Mason Williams, Sal Marquez (Tonight Show Band) and Glen Campbell.

BendBroadband extends a special thanks to Georges for hosting these wonderful events. Jazz drummer T.S. Monk will kick off the educational workshops this year. Monk is passionate about teaching the next generation and has sponsored music education for students in the form of full scholarships to the funding and supporting after-school programs.

This season workshops will be held at 11:15 a.m. in the Minnesota Ballroom at the OXFORD hotel:

  • Saturday, Oct. 21 – T.S. Monk
  • Saturday, Nov. 18 – Peter Erskine New Trio
  • Saturday, Feb. 10 – Paul Creighton and Jarrod Lawson
  • Saturday, March 17 – Lindsey Webster

From October 2017 through March 2018, the OXFORD hotel, BendBroadband and the Bend community will welcome an incredible and diverse lineup of world-class artists over five separate weekends. Stay up-to-date with what’s happening by following us on Facebook!

Review: Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters in Bend

For a guy who long ago achieved global domination via rock ‘n’ roll, Robert Plant’s obsession with American roots music is sort of sweetly adorable. During his show Monday night at Les Schwab Amphitheater in Bend, Plant’s between-song banter included multiple references to his home country “over there” (i.e. England), to music that came to America… Continue Reading

Big concert weekend in Bend!

Fellow denizens of RecentlyOvercastlandia, know this: No matter what the sky does to us over the next few days (and no matter what Pope Gregory XIII’s calendar says), Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to Central Oregon’s concert season. That’s because in most years, Memorial Day weekend is when Bend’s biggest concert venue, Les… Continue Reading

Wilderness performs on MyWindow, raises funds for second album

Here at BendBroadband, we’ve been fans of local pop-rock group Wilderness for a while now. The band’s music has soundtracked our ubiquitous Rock On commercial for about a year, and we’ve talked to frontman Jared Smith about the role the Internet plays in recording and promoting a band in 2015. (Hint: It plays an important role.) Anyway, Wilderness was recently… Continue Reading
